The fastest path
If you just want to be done quickly, this is the order of operations we recommend:
- Open Cash App (or Venmo) and check your balance.
- If you don't have enough on the balance, top it up with a debit card — not a bank transfer, which locks the resulting crypto for about seven days.
- Buy Bitcoin from that balance — funds clear instantly.
- Place your PepGuys order. Copy our BTC address from checkout.
- In the app, send that exact amount of BTC to that address.
- Once we see the transaction on-chain, your order moves to the pack queue.
Most first-time buyers go from "never used crypto" to "order paid" in under ten minutes when they avoid the bank-funded path.
Don't fund with a bank
This is the single most common reason orders get stuck, so we'll say it again: do not buy crypto with a linked bank account.
What works instead, in order of convenience:
- Existing in-app balance. If you already have money in Cash App or Venmo from a friend, paycheck, or refund, use it. Sends are instant.
- Debit card top-up. Most debit cards add funds to your balance immediately, with no hold on the resulting crypto.
- Direct deposit. If your paycheck lands in Cash App or Venmo, those dollars behave like balance — no hold.
Cash App, step by step
Available on iOS and Android. You'll need an account with identity verification turned on — Cash App will walk you through this the first time you try to buy Bitcoin.
- Open Cash App and tap the Bitcoin tab. It's the squiggly-B icon along the bottom row. If you don't see it, tap the profile circle, scroll to "Bitcoin," and enable it.
- Tap Buy and pick an amount. Use the keypad to enter the dollar amount. We recommend buying a little more than your order total — a few dollars covers the network fee when you send.
- Choose your funding source carefully. On the confirmation screen, Cash App shows where the dollars are coming from. Make sure it says "Cash balance" or your debit card, not your bank.
- Confirm and wait a beat. The Bitcoin lands in your Cash App Bitcoin balance within seconds when funded by balance/debit. You're now ready to send.
- Tap Send to send to PepGuys. From the Bitcoin tab, choose Send. Enter the BTC amount shown on your PepGuys checkout page, paste our address (see §05), and confirm. Cash App will display the network fee before you finalize.
Venmo, step by step
Venmo's flow is very similar. The thing to watch for is the same: funding source.
- Open Venmo and tap Crypto. From the home tab, tap "Crypto" in the navigation row, then "Bitcoin."
- Tap Buy and enter the dollar amount. Same idea as Cash App — buy a little more than your order total so there's room for the network fee.
- Pick the right payment method. Tap "Payment method" and pick your Venmo balance or a debit card. Avoid "Bank" — that's the path that triggers the hold.
- Confirm the buy. The Bitcoin appears in your Venmo crypto balance immediately when funded by balance or debit.
- Send Bitcoin to PepGuys. From the Bitcoin screen, tap "Transfer," then "Send." Paste the PepGuys BTC address, enter the BTC amount, and confirm.
Sending it to PepGuys
Once you have Bitcoin and the "Send" option is unlocked, the actual payment is the easy part.
- Place your order on PepGuys first. At checkout, you'll get the BTC address and exact BTC amount to send.
- Copy, don't retype. Bitcoin addresses are long and case-sensitive. Use the copy button on the checkout page.
- Send the exact amount. The amount on checkout already accounts for our side. You pay your wallet's network fee separately.
- Wait for confirmations. Most orders confirm within 20–40 minutes. You'll get an email when we see the transaction.
